The Yang Wood Dog Month : Riding the Dragon and Dog Clash

Changes have arrived and more are on the way. Are you prepared?

Yang Wood Dog meets Yang Wood Dragon

On October 8, the Yang Wood Dog month has begun. This is a significant month as we anticipate the clashing of the titans in Chinese Astrology, the Dog and Dragon.

In BaZi, the Yang Wood Dog (甲戌月) and Yang Wood Dragon (甲辰年) refer to specific elements and branches associated with the time of birth. Let's explore how the Yang Wood Dog month will interact with the Yang Wood Dragon year in 2024.

1. Yang Wood Dog Month (甲戌月):

- Yang Wood (甲) represents trees and large plants. It symbolizes growth, stability, uprightness, and a strong will.

- Dog (戌) is the Earth element and is associated with late autumn, a time when things start to decay and settle. It can represent loyalty, but also stubbornness and resistance to change.

2. Yang Wood Dragon Year (甲辰年):

- Yang Wood (甲) again symbolizes trees and uprightness, mirroring the qualities mentioned above.

- Dragon (辰) is a combination of Earth and Water elements, and it’s associated with the early part of spring. It is often seen as dynamic and unpredictable, representing hidden strength and transformation.

### Clash between Dog (戌) and Dragon (辰):

- The Dog (戌) and Dragon (辰) are considered a direct Earthly Branch clash. This is because they sit opposite each other on the Chinese zodiac circle, creating tension or conflict between their energies.

- The Dog (late autumn) and Dragon (early spring) are also seasonal opposites. This clash represents contradictions between endings and beginnings, or stability versus transformation. As Earth-related branches, the clash can impact matters of stability, trust, and foundational aspects of life.

### Interpretation of the Clash:

- Dog (戌) has a "graveyard" quality in BaZi terms, meaning it often brings endings, limitations, or finality. It is more resistant to change.

- Dragon (辰), on the other hand, is a "storage" of Water, representing hidden opportunities or potential for transformation, but it can also be volatile and unpredictable.

When these two clash in your BaZi chart, it can create tension around how you manage long-term stability versus pursuing new opportunities or transformations. The Yang Wood element adds an additional layer to this. Since both the year and month stem are Yang Wood (甲), there is a reinforcing energy of growth and determination, but the Earthly Branch clash (戌 and 辰) might create frustration in fully realizing these ambitions due to obstacles or conflicts between old and new foundations.

### Potential Manifestations:

- Internal conflict: You might feel torn between sticking to the tried and true (Dog's influence) and embracing change or something new (Dragon's influence).

- Relationship tensions: Clashes between the Dog and Dragon can lead to challenges in relationships, especially if one side wants stability and the other seeks more flexibility.

- Career or personal growth: You might experience obstacles or delays in professional life due to conflicting goals or approaches, especially related to long-term versus short-term strategies.

- External factors: Earth related events may impact the environment we live in. At the time of this writing, the U.S. has already been hit with catastrophe Category 4 hurricanes (Helene 9/26 and Milton on 10/10) and Nepal has been devasted by flooding, to name a few.

### Potential Responses:

To mitigate the effects of the Dog and Dragon clash, BaZi practitioners often recommend balancing out the conflicting elements. For example, you might focus on elements that harmonize with Earth, like Metal (which strengthens Earth) or Water (which helps Earth maintain its balance). Feng Shui adjustments or specific actions in life can also help manage the conflicting energies.

Last month, I had urged readers to use the calm (before the storm) and mirroring quality of the Rooster month to do deep inner work on the past, present and future, to reflect on the lessons to be learned and obstacles to be overcome. If you had done sufficient inner work, then utilizing the disruptive energy of October, we can seize the opportunity to bring about the essential changes, realignment, and restructuring necessary to pave a clearer path forward into 2025. This may involve adjusting relationship dynamics, reorganizing structure, and revamping systems.

This month is truly significant, marking the peak of the influence of the Wood Dragon in 2024. Despite appearing disruptive with challenges, setbacks, or natural events, it presents a remarkable chance for a necessary and beneficial pause to rejuvenate, change, and harmonize our inner energy.

In 2025, the Year of the Yin Wood Snake, Expect Further Changes

As of October 9, Jupiter started its yearly retrograde period which will last until February 4, 2025. During a planet's retrograde motion, attention shifts from external to internal matters. Progress on outward tasks may decelerate, presenting obstacles to overcome. This period encourages introspection to confront personal challenges and ensure readiness. It involves releasing the old to pave the way for new beginnings.

It's not just a coincidence that the solar new year will transition to the Year of the Yin Wood Snake on February 4, 2025. A glimpse into the BaZi chart of the Yin Wood Snake indicates forthcoming challenges and upheavals. Over the next four months, it would be wise to reassess your plans.

If you're interested in deeper insight, consulting a BaZi practitioner who can analyze your entire chart would offer a more personalized interpretation.
